Arizona General Pest Control 101: What One Queen Creek Call Taught Us

We recently got a call from a homeowner in Queen Creek — let’s call him Dave. Dave and his family had “a big ant problem,” hadn’t checked for termites in a while, and were confused about what’s included in a general pest service versus what counts as an extra.

As we talked through his questions — ants, mosquitoes, wasps, termites, pricing, and how often he really needed service — we realized he was asking the same things most Arizona homeowners want to know. So we thought we’d walk you through exactly how we handle general pest control here in the East Valley, using Dave’s call as a guide.

What Our Arizona General Pest Service Actually Covers

Dave’s first question after pricing was, “We have kind of a big problem with ants. Is that also included in that general service?” The short answer: yes.

When we say general pest control, we’re talking about the usual suspects around Arizona homes. On a standard service, we are targeting:

  • Scorpions
  • Spiders
  • Roaches
  • Ants
  • Crickets
  • Most other common “Arizona bugs” you see around the house and yard

Our goal is to create a protective perimeter around your home and address any active issues you are already seeing. For a standard-size home (not on acreage), we usually know exactly what pests to expect in your neighborhood and tailor the treatment accordingly.

What We Do on That First “Flush-Out” Service

On the call with Dave, we explained that the first service is more in-depth — we treat it as a flush-out and reset of your home’s pest situation. For a typical home in our service area, that first visit is usually around $125 and includes:

  • Full exterior treatment around the foundation and key areas
  • Garage treatment (a favorite pest hangout in Arizona)
  • Spot interior treatment if needed, depending on what you are seeing
  • Inspection for conducive conditions (harborage spots, moisture, clutter)

That first service lays the groundwork so that follow-up visits can maintain a much lower pest population around your home.

Safety Around Kids and Pets

Another thing we often talk about during that first visit is product safety, especially for families with kids and pets. Here is how we approach it:

  • We use professional-grade products designed for residential use.
  • We apply them in targeted areas where pests travel, not where kids play or pets sleep.
  • We’ll let you know if any areas need to stay dry or off-limits for a short time after treatment.

If you have specific concerns (pregnancy, exotic pets, sensitivities), we always encourage you to let us know so we can adjust the approach and walk you through the plan before we start.

Ongoing Service: How Often Do You Really Need Pest Control?

Dave asked what most people do in terms of frequency and whether there were contracts involved. In Arizona’s climate, pests don’t really “take a season off,” but that doesn’t mean you need us every month.

For most homes in Queen Creek and the surrounding area, we recommend:

  • Every other month service – This is what most of our customers choose. It keeps the protective barrier strong enough for typical Arizona pest pressure.
  • No long-term contracts – We do not require you to sign up for a year or lock into a contract.

The nice thing about getting on a regular service plan is that you receive free resprays between visits if something pops up. If you start seeing more activity than you are comfortable with before your next scheduled service, we come back out at no additional charge to get things back under control.

How We Inspect Common Entry Points Each Visit

On every service — not just the first — we are looking at how pests might be getting in. Common entry points we check include:

  • Doors and thresholds – Gaps under exterior doors, worn weatherstripping.
  • Windows – Torn screens, poorly sealed frames.
  • Garage – Door seals, cracks, and clutter that give pests shelter.
  • Foundation and exterior walls – Expansion joints, utility penetrations, and other small gaps.

Between visits, homeowners can help by:

  • Replacing worn weatherstripping around doors.
  • Repairing torn window screens.
  • Keeping garages and patios as clutter-free as possible.
  • Sealing small cracks and gaps with appropriate caulk or sealant.

When we combine these simple home maintenance steps with a consistent treatment schedule, pest issues usually stay very manageable.

What’s Extra: Mosquitoes, Big Wasp Nests, and Termite Treatment

During our conversation, Dave also asked about mosquitoes, termites, and a wasp nest he thought might be abandoned. These are excellent questions, because some things are included in general pest service and some are separate.

Mosquito Control

Mosquitoes are not part of a standard general pest service. When Dave asked about them, we explained that mosquito treatments can be added on for about $50 per visit.

Most of our customers add mosquito service:

  • Seasonally, during the warmer months when mosquitoes are worst.
  • Occasionally, before special events or when activity spikes.

We can talk through whether a one-time treatment or a seasonal add-on makes the most sense for your yard and how you use your outdoor space.

Wasps and Bees

Dave mentioned a wasp nest and wondered if that would be a separate charge. Our answer depends on the size and situation:

  • Small wasp nests – If we are already there for your general pest service and see a small nest (what we called a “little clump” on the call), we will take care of it as part of your regular visit.
  • Large wasp or bee problems – If it is a significant nest or a large beehive, or you call us out just for that issue when we are not already scheduled, there will typically be a separate charge.

Either way, we will assess the situation, let you know what you are dealing with, and outline your options before we proceed.

Termite Inspection vs. Termite Treatment

One thing that surprised Dave was that he did not need to schedule a separate termite inspection right away. We explained that while termite treatment is a separate service and price, inspecting for termites is included with every regular pest service.

On each visit, we keep an eye out for:

  • Termite tubes along the foundation or in the garage.
  • Wood damage that looks suspicious.
  • Conditions that make termite activity more likely (moisture, wood-to-soil contact).

If we find signs of termites, we will then talk through treatment options and pricing specific to your property. Termite work is very property-dependent, so we never quote that blindly over the phone.

Scheduling, Timing, and What to Expect

Dave also wanted to know how far out we were booking and whether we worked weekends. Like we told him, we typically schedule services Monday through Friday and can often get you in as early as the following week, sometimes even the same day depending on the schedule.

When you call to set up service, here is what you can expect:

  • We confirm your location and home size so pricing is clear.
  • We talk through what pests you are currently seeing.
  • We find a time window that works for your schedule, Monday–Friday.
  • We explain what the first visit will look like and answer any safety questions.

If you decide to move from a one-time service to a regular plan, we will help you pick an every-other-month schedule that fits your routine — and remember, with that plan, resprays between visits are included if pests pop up.

Have Questions About What You Really Need?

If you find yourself asking the same questions Dave did — What does general pest actually cover? Do we need mosquitoes, termites, or wasp removal as extras? How often should we really treat? — that is exactly what we are here for.

We are always happy to walk through your specific situation, explain what is included, and build a simple, no-contract plan that keeps Arizona pests from taking over your home.
